The Matchgirls Memorial was delighted to work in partnership with the Tower Hamlets Council to produce this wonderful information panel in Grove Hall Park.
The grand unveiling took place on 1st July 2023 with speeches from Councillor Iqbal Hossain (Culture and Recreation), Michael Lee (Secretary of Fairfield Conservation Area Residents’ Association (FCARA)) and Sam Johnson (Matchgirl descendant and Trustee of The Matchgirls Memorial).
After the unveiling, families arrived with picnics and everyone sat in the pleasant surroundings of the park, chatting and learning more about the Matchgirls Strike that took place in 1888 just a stone’s throw away in the old Bryant and May factory in Fairfield Road.
