The Matchgirls Memorial were delighted to attend the Durham Miners' Gala on 9th July 2022, as it returned in after a three year absence due to Covid. IIt was a beautiful warm and sunny day, and more than 200,000 people filled the streets of Durham and its Racecourse. We were privileged to witness more than 60 Durham miners banners and more than 50 brass bands marching through the streets. 

The Durham Miners Association (DMA) formed in 1869, to break the feudal contract known as the Bond. Since 1871, the DMA has  hosted the Gala, the world's greatest celebration of community, international solidarity, and working class culture.
